BBVA is taking a major step forward in its digital transformation by expanding its long-standing collaboration with Google Cloud through the deployment of Google Workspace with Gemini, as part of the global bank’s comprehensive AI adoption strategy.

Under this initiative, BBVA will roll out Google Workspace with Gemini across its global operations, empowering over 100,000 employees with secure generative AI capabilities in tools like Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. Early results show that BBVA employees save nearly three hours per week by automating repetitive tasks, freeing up more time for strategic, customer-focused work.

Since first partnering with Google Cloud in 2011, BBVA has continually leveraged technology to enhance operations. Now, with Gemini integrated into daily productivity tools, employees will gain a collaborative AI assistant to summarize, draft, and retrieve information from emails, chats, and files; create professional presentations, spreadsheets, and videos; and take more efficient notes during calls.

Beyond Workspace, BBVA teams will also benefit from the standalone Gemini app and NotebookLM, an AI-powered research and writing assistant designed to streamline tasks like research, report creation, and generating audio summaries of complex findings.

“The partnership with Google Cloud allows us to continue transforming how our teams work, make decisions, and collaborate—using the most competitive generative AI models on the market,” said Elena Alfaro, Global Head of AI Adoption at BBVA. “Gemini with Workspace has the potential to simplify tasks and spark new ideas, significantly boosting productivity and innovation.”

Juan Ortigosa, Global Head of Workplace at BBVA, added, “We expect that the widespread adoption of generative AI across these tools will improve productivity and the work experience of all employees, fostering a more dynamic and efficient environment.”

Isaac Hernandez, Country Manager Spain at Google Cloud, emphasized, “This expanded partnership with BBVA underscores the transformative power of generative AI in the enterprise. We’re committed to helping BBVA unlock new levels of innovation and efficiency with tools like Gemini.”

To ensure responsible use, BBVA has launched a mandatory training program, ‘AI Express’, focused on secure and ethical AI adoption. The program aligns with the European Union’s AI Act and BBVA’s internal policies on data protection and confidentiality. Access to Gemini-powered tools will only be granted to employees who complete this training, ensuring they can use AI effectively and responsibly.
