IBM Introduces Next-Generation FlashSystem with Agentic AI and Autonomous Storage Capabilities

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today unveiled the next generation of IBM FlashSystem, co-run by agentic AI, ushering in a new era of autonomous storage. By enhancing FlashSystem’s existing AI capabilities with agentic AI, IBM is redefining resilience through sustained protection, autonomous threat analysis, and customized recovery recommendations. Clients can now turn storage into an always-on layer of intelligence, enabling reliable and secure storage operations that can reduce the manual effort of storage management by up to 90%.
The new portfolio includes three enterprise storage systems—IBM FlashSystem 5600, 7600, and 9600—alongside FlashSystem.ai data services and a fifth-generation FlashCore Module designed to improve system resiliency, data management, and ransomware detection.

Meet the New Generation
The launch represents IBM’s most significant FlashSystem update in six years, introducing models designed for diverse business requirements.
- IBM FlashSystem 5600 delivers enterprise-class capabilities in a compact design, offering up to 2.5 PBe of effective capacity in a single 1U system and up to 2.6M IOPs, ideal for edge locations and smaller data centers.
- IBM FlashSystem 7600 provides high performance and scalability with up to 7.2 PBe of capacity in a single 2U system and up to 4.3M IOPs, supporting large virtualized environments and analytics workloads.
- IBM FlashSystem 9600 supports mission-critical operations with up to 11.8 PBe of capacity and up to 6.3M IOPs, reducing operational costs through AI-driven consolidation.
The systems reduce storage footprint requirements by 30% to 75% depending on the model, while offering interactive monitoring features such as LED bezels on select models.
Flash Storage Meets AI
FlashSystem.ai introduces AI-powered automation to transform storage from a static repository into a self-improving system. The platform uses an AI model trained on billions of data points to execute automated decisions, optimize performance, and reduce manual oversight.
The system adapts to application behavior within hours, provides explainable recommendations, and incorporates administrator feedback. It also helps reduce audit and compliance documentation time by generating explainable operational reasoning.
The latest FlashSystem models support proactive workload tuning, intelligent data placement, and non-disruptive data mobility across storage devices, including third-party arrays.
FlashCore Module Technology
All new FlashSystem models include the fifth-generation FlashCore Module, offering up to 105TB of capacity along with significant improvements in efficiency and security. The module uses hardware-accelerated analytics to detect ransomware and anomalies rapidly without affecting system performance.
The technology enables ransomware detection and alerting in under 60 seconds and supports autonomous recovery actions at the hardware level, enhancing overall system resilience.
