LevelBlue, a global leader in cloud-based, AI-driven managed security services (MSS), has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Trustwave, a recognized global provider of cybersecurity and managed detection and response (MDR) services. The deal, made with the MC2 Security Fund (MC2) sponsored by The Chertoff Group, will unite two industry-leading MSSPs to deliver unmatched cybersecurity outcomes through a comprehensive and expanded service portfolio, creating the largest independent pure-play MSSP in the world.
This acquisition follows LevelBlue’s recent agreement to acquire Aon’s cybersecurity consulting business (formerly Stroz Friedberg) and will combine LevelBlue’s strategic risk management expertise with Trustwave’s Fusion Platform and cloud-native MDR services. Together, they will offer enterprises 24/7 security coverage, enhanced visibility, and optimized resource management across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. The partnership will also integrate LevelBlue’s AI threat detection technology with Trustwave SpiderLabs’ threat intelligence for a unified managed defense platform.
Earlier this year, Trustwave became the first pure-play MDR provider to achieve full FedRAMP authorization, alongside StateRAMP approval, enabling them to meet strict Department of Defense “US eyes only” requirements and CMMC standards for federal, state, and local government MDR services.
Robert McCullen, Chairman and CEO of LevelBlue, stated: “Trustwave’s unmatched MDR expertise, threat intelligence, and prestigious authorizations align perfectly with our vision to deliver simplified yet powerful cybersecurity protection. This move strengthens our ability to deliver superior outcomes to global enterprises and public sector clients.”
Eric Harmon, CEO of Trustwave, added: “The evolving threat landscape demands innovation and scale. Partnering with LevelBlue allows us to expand our leadership, enhance both offensive and defensive capabilities, and deliver even greater protection for our clients.”
Trustwave, headquartered in Chicago with over 1,000 security professionals, is recognized for its MDR, MSS, cybersecurity advisory services, penetration testing, database security, and email security. The elite SpiderLabs team delivers globally respected threat research, intelligence, and hunting capabilities integrated into Trustwave’s offerings.
Industry analyst Christina Richmond noted: “Merging Trustwave’s Fusion Platform and SpiderLabs with LevelBlue’s AI threat detection and Open Threat Exchange (OTX) creates a formidable force in threat detection and response, positioning them for full-service global cybersecurity leadership.”
Chad Sweet, Chairman of Trustwave and Co-Founder of The Chertoff Group / MC2, commented: “The combined capabilities of AI-driven detection and FedRAMP-authorized security operations will set a new standard for enterprise and government cybersecurity.”
This acquisition is central to LevelBlue’s strategy to merge top-tier organizations and capabilities, addressing the demand for integrated, high-performance managed security services. It positions the company as the largest independent pure-play MSSP globally, with expanded reach into federal markets.
