French accounting and financial management platform Dougs has secured €50 million in funding from growth equity investor Expedition Growth Capital to expand its AI capabilities and automate more of its accounting operations.
Founded in Lyon in 2015, Dougs provides accounting, payroll, legal, invoicing, and financial management services to small businesses and freelancers. The company serves more than 50,000 businesses and generates over €50 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), according to the company and its investor.
Funding to Advance Agentic AI Technology
Dougs plans to use the new investment to expand its proprietary AI and automation technology. Its platform already uses AI to automate certain bookkeeping workflows, and the company is developing agentic systems capable of independently handling a greater share of accounting production.
Unlike traditional automation tools that perform individual tasks, agentic AI systems are designed to manage connected workflows and carry out multiple steps toward a defined objective.
Dougs' next milestone is to use these systems to generate financial statements, which will then be reviewed and signed by a qualified chartered accountant. This approach combines automated processing with professional oversight.
Expansion Across Accounting and Financial Services
Beyond AI development, Dougs intends to broaden its platform across accounting, legal, and financial management services. The company also plans to strengthen its presence in France through a network of local partners that can help bring more entrepreneurs onto the platform.
The funding follows an earlier €25 million investment from Expedition Growth Capital in 2023. Dougs says it has remained profitable since its founding and built its technology in-house, supported by a team of more than 100 engineers.
Dougs Targets €100 Million in Annual Recurring Revenue
Dougs aims to reach €100 million in ARR and serve 100,000 customers in the coming years. Its strategy centres on combining technology-driven efficiency with the expertise of accounting professionals.
By automating repetitive accounting activities, the company expects to increase operational capacity while allowing its accountants to focus more on professional judgement and client support. Achieving these goals will depend on maintaining the accuracy and reliability required for regulated financial services as automation expands.
What This Means for the FinTech Industry
Dougs' funding highlights growing investor interest in applying AI to professional services, particularly industries with structured workflows and specialist knowledge.
Accounting is a promising area for automation because many activities involve processing financial documents, categorising transactions, reconciling records, and preparing reports. However, complex financial decisions still require appropriate oversight and accountability.
For FinTech companies, the opportunity extends beyond adding AI features to existing software. Platforms that integrate AI into core service delivery could reshape how businesses access accounting and financial management support.
Conclusion
Dougs' €50 million funding round will support its ambition to make accounting operations more autonomous through agentic AI while expanding its services and customer base across France.
Its progress will be worth watching as financial technology companies explore how to combine AI-driven productivity with professional expertise, regulatory requirements, and customer trust.
